Vector Art
This unit was designed to teach students how to create vector art, a style of work where images are composed of solid colored shapes. This unit really appealed to me for a few reasons. Due to the abstract nature of the work, no two pieces, even if modeled after the same image, could ever conceivably be the same, and would more than likely end up looking VERY different. One of the great things about dealing with this style of work is that it's pretty much impossible to mess a piece up. There are so many shapes being created, that the form of each one is insignificant. As long as you have some idea of how to put them all together, you will be just fine. I was very happy with the way that my piece turned out. Though if I had a chance to do this unit again, I would push myself even harder, and take on a more challenging, time consuming task.

this piece is a lot of fun. the more i look at all the little pieces, the more i like looking at it. i especially like the sharp angles of the shirt and tie contrasted with the loose shapes of the face. it's very playful. i want to call it "jaunty." it's impressionistic. and i love the mustache shadow - it makes the mustache look so thick, almost like snow or ice cream.
ReplyDeleteanother thing you did really well on this assignment is color analysis. you're the third student to attempt this assignment, but you seemed to determine the shapes and color more quickly and easily than others. the color theory involved here is a lot like painting. you seem to have a natural eye for it. the lower part of the face (from the eyes down), in particular, has great depth and three-dimensionality.
you have great talent, shelton. on your introductory sheet you said you were interested in engineering (which is one of my interests, as well.) i hope, however, that you keep exercising your artistic abilities as well. perhaps you will one day make beautiful and functional pieces.
thank you so much for choosing to take this class. i've quite enjoyed all of your art.
